The Beats

The tail of Dalforth Pool fishes well in high water

The Gannochy beats offer over 20 named pools and a wide variety of fishing on six miles of widely varying river from the surging depths of the gorges to the serene calm of Dalforth.                                                                                                                                       (Click here for a map of the fishing)
Fish can be caught from February onwards, but the prime season starts in May.  Salmon over 30 lbs are sometimes seen, though it is rare to land one over 20 lbs.  There is a fine run of grilse from July.  The river also has sea-trout and brown trout up to 5lb.

The comfortable fishing hut with it’s log burning stove provides a welcome shelter on chilly days and is a good lunchtime meeting point for fishermen.

The estate also offers first class accommodation for up to four fishermen in a lovely stone cottage with its own beach and garden overlooking the river
