Driven Grouse

Numbers of grouse are now sufficiently high that a full season of both walked-up and driven grouse is once again possible at Gannochy.

The number of days shooting depends on the breeding success of the birds in any given year. There will always be peaks and troughs in grouse numbers due to weather conditions in spring.

If stocks build up too much, overcrowding can cause a sudden collapse in the grouse population through infection by the strongyl worm.

Careful management of the numbers by a balance of walked up and driven days can ensure a good stock of grouse and a healthy range of other wildlife through successive years.
